Family 2 Family
Family 2 Family is an annual project of WCN that enables your family to reach out in love to an impoverished family overseas. More than half of the world's population lives on less than $2 a day, and an estimated 250,000 children will die of malnutrition this year.
Involving your entire family in this project will enhance their awareness of world hunger and provide an opportunity to respond. WCN has served thousands of needy people around the world. Thanks to your partnership through Family 2 Family, we will help thousands more.
WHAT IS A WCN MISSION TRIP LIKE?
| We are often asked this question and it is difficult to put the experience into words. Most people are familiar with our food box drive but rarely get to see who receives the food boxes. We have put together a short video to show you what we do in the field and why we do it. Don't forget to visit our testimonial link to see the impact the experience has had on those who have gone. | Our
Family 2 Family October trip consisted of eight women and two men.
Just prior to our arrival, Honduras had received very high levels of
rainfall which had caused massive flooding and landslides throughout
the country. Local government contacts were telling us that many of the shelters had not received food for days. When we arrived the need was obvious. Schools had been converted into shelters, with up to 60 people living in one room with no running water or a functioning toilet. The team was incredible, in spite of our small size, everyone worked hard and completed 7 distributions. |
Our distributions sites varied significantly this trip, from the poorest inner city barrios to a Kia mountain range distribution bordering the La Tigra rainforest. Once again it is diffiult to convey the level of apprecation expressed by the poor in those villages and shelters. There is a sincerity of heart that these people possess that has to be experienced to understand. The food, clothes and toys we take can sustainthem for several weeks, but it is the hope and eternal perspective we bring that can change their lives forever. The coolest part about the interaction is that the life change is mutual. This should not come as a surprise. God promises us throught Paul in Romans 12 that when we offer our bodies as living sacrifices, not conforming to the patterns of this world that there will be a "renewing of our minds". Those who came with us to serve will never be the same.

We stayed at the Hope Center, an Orphanage run by Zion Ministries. Staying at the Hope Center gave us the opportunity to live with the children and do our distributions during the day. As the week progressed we got to know John and Tara Carrette, the two incredible individuals who run the Hope Center with love and patience. We also learned the stories of the children they help. These stories are horrific and almost inconceivable. Prior to coming to the Hope Center, one of the 9 year old's file documented that she had been the victim of 10 rapes, 1 at gun point, then struck on the head causing permanent brain damage. She came to the Hope Center at 5 years of age. Another child was found by a government employee in a poor barrio in the city when she noticed dogs dragging him out of a trash can to devour him. He was covered in feces, abandoned and only two years old. The stories go on and on, one after another, but as horrifying as the stories were, the opportunity to be a small part of the process of loving these little ones back to life was awesome. In spite of their circumstances, God is healing their physical and emotional wounds through those who volunteer and serve. We are proud to be a part of Hope Center's efforts. In 2008, four teams of 24 people each, worked very hard over the four week period to complete 24 distributions which included food, clothes, personal hygiene supplies, toys and of course, the good news of Christ. All of this is done through the local churches in association with the local pastors. Over 1,350 food boxes were distributed feeding conservative estimates of 5,000 people. It should be a wonderfully fulfilling feeling to all those who partner with us, knowing that thousands were fed due to their willingness to support WCN both financially and in prayer. It is even more exciting to think that with every mouthful of food it is God that is being praised by the people of Honduras. You can not imagine the credibility given to the poor pastors of these small local churches, when they are associated with such desperately needed supplies. This also provides a great way for the spiritual seeds that we have planted to continue to be watered after we leave. WCN has been reminded of the effectiveness of our model when we visited a previous church project from two years past. The name of the church is De Planes Atlantida and when we first assessed it in 2006, there were 15 members and the building was in complete ruin. We renovated and when we visited this year the church is now thriving, with almost 150 members. There is a passion for God in that church that is electric and spreading quickly. The ripple effects of such a church will echo out through generations and only in heaven will we know the full impact. It is absolutely awesome. We also had the opportunity to visit several orphanages and help supply them with bulk rice, flour, cornmeal and love . These visits are heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time. Our F2F YouTube link is available showing video and photos from all four weeks as 'What is a Mission Trip Like".
OUR 2008 F2F CHURCH PROJECT
WCN is just returning from the completion of our four weeks of Family-2-Family mission trips to Honduras and we are excited to say it was an incredible success. The project chosen this year was the construction of a beautiful little church in a rural area called Brisas de Valle in El Progresso. The church will serve as a place for worship, as well as a kitchen to supply meals to hungry children in the surrounding area. The area is very poor, but the pastor is an incredibly committed Christian. His philosophy, like ours, is to tell of God's love through his words, but also show it in a tangible way by providing food for those in need. We loved the idea from the beginning. Watch our YouTube link to see the church progression and celebration.

With 120 volunteers serving over the span of five weeks, WCN's 2007 Family 2 Family mission trips were amazing. Each week lives were changed as volunteer teams traveled to the poor villages of Honduras to worship together, share the gospel of the mighty savior, and distribute hundreds of food boxes, clothes, toys, shoes, and hygiene products. Much time was spent praying, playing, and doing crafts with the Hondurans. WCN volunteers also assisted in a construction project which expanded a church building in El Progesso.
From the churches and individuals who filled the food boxes, to the volunteers who ministered in Honduras, WCN sincerely thanks everyone involved for extending the Love of Christ to 6,000 Hondurans this year. Amazingly so, God will continue to multiply from there.
