Compassion Projects

Liberia (Africa)

NEWS FROM LIBERIA ! !

The fortified rice donated by Feed My Starving Children arrived in Monrovia in June.  Thanks to all who partnered with WCN to cover the entire cost of the shipment.

Not only does this rice fill the belly of a hungry child, but it also provides the necessary vitamins, minerals, and protein needed to increase a child's health.

Overseeing the feeding operations for this project is WCN's partnering agency, the West African Children's Support Network.  WCN's Director, Joe Wilkey, will travel to Liberia in the near future to get a first hand report.

Thanks again to all who participated.....hundreds of Liberian children are being nourished!

Cambodia (Asia)

WCN is currently engaging in an exciting opportunity to equip the Cambodian churches with facilities to help minister to thousands across the nation.

In doing so, WCN will purchase a machine that will make 3000 blocks (bricks per day) without chemicals or curing.  It only requires 1500 psi of pressure with 5% clay in the soil.  That is about 75% of the earths surface.

Thankfully through the generosity of a few special givers, the amount needed to purchase, ship, and start the project has been met.  In March of this year, WCN will be traveling to Cambodia to meet with local pastors, officials, and a missionary friend to plan the details of this challenging process.

Please pray for this great endeavour, as WCN hopes to take a team to Cambodia to help build the first church some time in early 2008.

Uganda (Africa)

A beautiful country in its own right, Uganda has seen a dark and horrifying presence effecting the lives of millions of innocent people.  This ulgy shadow is caused by a civil war being waged by a sinister and an evil rebel leader named Joseph Koni.  His followers raid villages in the bush (rural country) at night robbing, raping, killing, and abducting children.  They force the little girls to become sex slaves and the little boys to become child soldiers.

This has created a huge population of internally displaced people (IDPs) who run in fear to locations of protection where food, water, and other basic needs are scarce.  In addition, education for children and hope for adults is slim.

In response to the fear, hunger, and inadequate life styles of the internally displaced people, WCN in partnership with Rivervalley Church, Warsaw Community Church, and Scripture Union of Uganda visited several (IDP) camps and churches in Northern Uganda to bring the love and hope through Christ.  Compassion was shown by distributing food, school supplies, preaching the gospel; along with listening and encouraging the local church leadership.

WCN is exploring ways to engage with the Ugandan churches and Scripture Union to provide for the children's spiritual needs as well as their physical needs.  It will take time, commitment, and courage for the Ugandans to overcome the terrible ties of the past....please pray for them.
